The BlueProton USB 2.0 Card Reader is less reliable than other flash card readers we reviewed. Although it will work perfectly fine for some users, other users received a product that wouldn’t read their cards correctly. The design of the external card reader is excellent and users will notice immediately that this flash card reader was built to be used on the go.

BlueProton’s flash card reader is equipped with a durable casing. Both the body of the external card reader and the USB plug have a protective cover, which will assist in protecting the card reader while not in use. Memory cards are loaded into the back of the reader; this is ideal for most people since side-loading external card readers often prove less convenient for most users.

Like other smart card readers, this BlueProton memory card reader is made of plastic. The plastic seems more fragile than other flash card readers we reviewed. It does have the protective caps, which we appreciate; however, we still recommend looking at other external card readers before committing to this one.

The external card reader is compatible with the following flash card types:

Although the card reader that we tested worked with each of the card types, some users said that the reader they received didn’t read their (supposedly compatible) cards. There were more complaints with this card reader not working properly than with any other external card reader we reviewed; for that reason we recommend viewing our top-ranked flash card readers to see if they will fit your needs before purchasing this one.

We found the card reader extremely easy to use and found it beneficial that it didn’t require software to use. We were unable to get the card reader to work with our Mac operating systems and came to the conclusion that a Windows operating system is necessary. Although it provides the durable case, the card reader doesn’t feel as well-built and durable as the other top products we reviewed. It is easy to use, but users must make sure that the card is fully inserted into the reader or else the device will not be able to read the data files.

Although BlueProton provides a few questions regarding shipping and order processing under their FAQs, we were surprised that the only way to contact customer assistance is by an email form found on their website. We never received a response from the customer support team and were disappointed by that fact.
