With the big name, many users expect big products from a company as large as Sony. Although the Sony USB Memory Card Reader/Writer doesn’t top the list for flash card readers, it still makes the top 10. The Sony flash card reader is smaller than other options and provides convenient loading in the back of the reader. Although there are only three types of cards that are compatible with the reader, it makes up for a lot in size.
External card readers that have card slots on the back are much easier to use than readers with slots on the side. This is one of the largest benefits of the Sony memory card reader. With this Sony flash card reader, you don’t have to put as much thought into which USB port you will use for the card reader; any of them will work. Through our research we found that users with laptops or other computers that have USB ports close together found side-loading card slots difficult to use because they often had to move around all of their USB cables. Once plugged into your computer’s USB port the memory cards should not interfere with other devices plugged into the computer.
Sony’s external card reader is made of a hard plastic that makes it more durable and able to withstand the jostles of traveling in a pocket or a purse. The device is still breakable, and users should treat it as such, but Sony has done well providing a well-designed case to protect it. The cap covers the USB plug completely so it won’t bend or break, the only thing users should be careful of in that aspect is losing the cap. The back of the flash card reader has no cover so dust and dirt can slip into the card slots and damage the device if users aren’t careful.
Although the Sony USB card reader doesn’t provide a wide variety of compatibility, it can be used for reading the following card types:
The all-in-one card reader is beneficial because it will read every card type with a single memory card slot. Typically the most difficult part of using a Sony product is going through their customer support department. Their website’s Product Support page doesn’t take you directly to a phone number, email address or chat support where you can get help if you need it. We tried a few different links on their website, attempted providing our Sony model number and still for additional information regarding the all-in-one card reader.
The best aspect of the Sony USB card reader is that it is small and the memory cards are inserted through the back, not the side. Although the Sony product only reads three different card types, it is still one of the top 10 flash card readers available because of its performance and reliability. We recommend reading the reviews to our top products before purchasing the Sony USB Memory Card Reader/Writer; however, if you are set on the design, or owning a Sony card reader – this is a quality product.
